In the heart of Bari’s old port, Teatro Margherita stands by the sea like a refined Liberty-style jewel. Built between 1912 and 1914 on pillars anchored directly into the water, the theater was inaugurated on August 22, 1914, with an elegant variety show filled with lights, music, and the charm of the café-chantant.
In the 1920s, with the extension of the seafront and the addition of the Circolo della Vela’s upper floor, the building lost its original look as a stage suspended over the sea, transforming instead into a cultural icon facing the city.
Even today, the Kursaal enchants visitors with its Liberty architecture and its deep connection to Bari’s theatrical history.
